Sick Evo 8 Makes 725whp On Race Gas

If haven’t seen our previous post on this Evo 8 you need to check it out here. Since our last update on this car we have tuned numerous AWD setups, but we promised updated numbers on this Evo so needless to say we have some really impressive graphs.

We plan to do some track tuning with this Evo in the coming weeks and will make updates on what it runs. We will also try to get some pictures and videos of it running at the track.

This setup is exactly the same as the last time we tuned except for the addition of Q16 race gas. Here are the updated graphs:

Sick Evo 8 Break-In Dyno Tune!

So as everyone knows, we primarily tune Honda/Acura cars, but dabble in pretty much everything/anything out there. Any given day I could be tuning a Subaru, Nissan, Toyota, injected domestic, etc. With the addition of the AWD dyno this past year we have slowly been getting more AWD cars in for tuning, including Evos. I have tuned a handful of Evos now with the OEM ECU “flashed” based tuning, as well as several AEM EMS equipped. A good customer of ours recently bought and built a low mileage Evo 8 with a serious set-up for street and track domination! A break-down of the set-up is as follows:

ET Puts the new AEM EMS 30-6052 box through its paces.

AEM EMS Series 2Eagerly anticipating the new AEM Series 2 boxes for the Honda and Acura market, I was able to work with AEM on putting some pre-production Series 2 boxes to the test! The 30-6052 box, which replaces the 30-1052 for the 00-05′ applications was first on the list. With an 03′ supercharged s2000 as the donor car, I was able to get some good testing feedback for AEM. The new AEM Tuner software is great to work with, and has made leaps and bounds in the past several months. I was a bit skeptical with the new software, because it did not the same “feel” as AEMPRO but after a few hours of using Tuner I was hooked! With custom definable workspaces, intuitive software, and an overall more user-friendly interface the new Tuner software is an awesome step forward for AEM.

USB Interface
One of the biggest changes to the new Series 2 boxes is the USB interface. While the Series 2 box does have the traditional RS232 (serial) interface, the USB is an awesome addition. No more usb to serial conversion cables, or driver issues! Just plug in the USB cable, assign the driver and your tuning! I personally use a Mac laptop with a program called “Parallels VM” that allows me to run Windows XP software. I usually have a lot of issues assigning drivers, but not with Tuner! Within 2 minutes I was online with the Series 2 box and tuning. I cannot stress how much more convenient the USB feature is with the Series 2 boxes.

Convert Calibration
The new Tuner series software has a “convert calibration” feature that converts the file from V1.19 in AEMPro software to the 0v10 in AEM Tuner. This will allow you to take your current “tuned” calibration file and be able to have your car up and running on the Series 2 box within minutes! Its that easy, just convert the file, plug in the Series 2 box and have your car running within 98% of its previous tune! I was very impressed with this feature while tuning. My testing consisted of tuning the s2000 on the series 1 box. Taking that file, converting it from V1.19 to 0v10 and uploading to the Series 2 box. After checking a few parameters, I was making dyno pulls! Within 2 pulls the car was making the same power/torque as with the Series 1 box.

Miscellaneous
Another application specific advancement with the Series 2 boxes for the s2000 applications is full functionality of the factory coolant temperature gauge! No more Modifry circuit to make the gauge work properly! Some additional advancements to the software are definable mph breakpoints for the speed based boost control tables, named/grouped configurable outputs for ease of management and navigation and overall more custom user configurable (layout) software that is suited to individual user needs.

Overall
Time breeds innovation and advancements in electronics, and the new Series 2 boxes are no exception. The hardware design of the boards is completely changed from the Series 1 boxes, which much higher quality drivers and components throughout. If you have a Series 1 box and are thinking about switching out to a Series 2 do it! You certainly will not be disappointed! AEM is advancing very quickly with software development, so as time progresses the software will as well. If you are in the market for a EMS system for your s2000, the Series 2 is what you are after! The Series 2 box is completely plug and play, so if emission testing is a reason that you are not considering AEM think again! With plug and play components such as map sensor and injector clips you can quickly return your s2000 back to stock within 20-30 minutes.

AEM Wideband, Oil Pressure, and Fuel Pressure Gauge Combo!

etaemgauges1

We get emails almost daily about what gauges are the most important, and what brand we suggest. Hands down the most important gauges are oil pressure, wideband air/fuel, and fuel pressure in that order. We have been working with the AEM digital gauges for the last few months and absolutely love them! They are everything you could want in a gauge; super accurate, have a digital read out, and have a 0-5 volt datalogging output on each gauge. The datalogging output is the best feature of these gauges. It allows you to input the 0-5 volt output to your AEM EMS or Hondata s300 and datalog any of the parameters!

Support for NepTune Tuning System discontinued.

Some background.
Over the past year we have seen steady advances in the Hondata s300 system (see our “Why choose Hondata s300” post). These advances have brought the software out of the the contest between it and many others as the leading Honda Tuning software. Due to the wide acceptance of the Hondata s300 system, and the broad range of needs it fulfills we have decided it best to discontinue support for the NepTune and NepTune RTP tuning systems and focus solely on providing Hondata s300 as our “stock ECU” option for engine management. We will also continue tuning other systems for Honda’s such as AEM, PowerFC, etc (discounts will apply on tuning for these systems for customers upgrading from NepTune when system is also purchased through Evans Tuning).

What is changing?

  • Support for NepTune will be discontinued immediately. We are no longer providing tech support for the NepTune Tuning system.
  • We are no longer booking new appointments or retune appointments for NepTune.

Buyer Beware – Knock off Injector Dynamics/Bosch 1000ccs on the Market!

It was only a matter of time before someone came out with a knock off version of the InjectorDynamics.com saturated Bosch 1000cc/min injectors. The actual Bosch injector is an OEM injector used in production cars. InjectorDynamics.com reflows them to 1000cc/min, which is standard practice with any aftermarket injector you will find. The reason that the InjectorDynamics.com 1000cc/min injectors work so well is because all 4 injectors are matched together: More >

Thinking about getting a new turbo? Be realistic!!!

gt42r

I have noticed a trend in the past year or two that has really been bothering me. With the growth of the sport compact scene and cars getting faster and faster on the street and at the drag strip, the bigger is better attitude has certainly taken over. If 600whp is good, 900whp is better! If i am spending $1200.00 on the smaller turbo, I can just upgrade to the super duper humongous turbo that is the same price and make a couple hundred horsepower more! If you are thinking about going with a huge turbo for your build, read this! More >
