tuningflashpro1

Well I just got off the dyno with my first FlashPro tuning appointment, and I have to say FlashPro ROCKS!! The car was an 07′ Civic Si with K&N short ram intake, Buddy Club race header, test pipe and Greddy SP2 2.38″ exhaust. The customer’s car was previously running with the Hondata reflash, and running extremely rich under WOT. FlashPro was a MUST to extract the best power, drivability and economy from this set-up.

The FlashPro software interface falls right inline with all of the other Hondata tuning software such as SManager (s300) and KManager (KPro). Navigation was a breeze, and datalogging was on point. The only downside was waiting for the flashing between changes (90 seconds). I decided to tune the car based on MAP (Manifold Air Pressure) instead of the factory MAF (Mass Airflow). I personally prefer tuning based on speed density (MAP) rather than MAF based if possible from my previous experiences on other applications (Evo, Nissan, etc).

The base calibration Hondata created for the similar I/H/E (intake/header/exhaust) was less than ideal. O2 fuel trims were all over the place partial throttle, audible knock was occuring on the low cam mapping and WOT/Vtec mapping was extremely rich. I decided to start with the stock base calibration MAP based and go from there.

After several hours of going through all the fuel/timing/cam angle mapping, the engine made a respectable 206whp/156tq. This falls right inline with most other K20 applications I have tuned with small exhausts (2.38~2.5″), which really choke the top end power. With a full 3″ exhaust this could have made another 15-20whp worth of power, and potentially some additional midrange gain.

What the dyno cannot measure how much more the drivability improved with the custom tune. The customer immediately noticed the difference in how smooth the car ran, and the increased throttle response. Overall I am extremely impressed with FlashPro, and it is currently my #1 choice for tuning the 06+ Civic Si!
